Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

January 16th is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

January 16, 2012 will mark the anniversary of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. federal holiday. It is observed on the third Monday of January each year, which is around the time of King's birthday, January 15.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday should highlight remembrance and celebration and should encourage people everywhere to reflect on the principles of nonviolent social change and racial equality as espoused by Martin Luther King, Jr. It should be a day of community and humanitarian service, and interracial cooperation.
